Keeping Kids and Pets Safe

Girl and Her Dog

This is the time of year when ticks and fleas can become a problem for family pets, but commercial pest collars can be even more of a problem, especially for kids. Most flea and tick collars contain synthetic pyrethroid pesticides which have been linked to endocrine disruption and other serious health problems. Kids playing with pets can easily come into contact with these collars, and their natural hand-to-mouth behavior puts them at special risk for accidental ingestion of pesticides.

Herbal collars are safe and effective alternatives, and are available at many pet and health food stores. You can also protect your pet by adding yeast or garlic powder to its food. Bon appetite, Fido!
