How can you address climate change, encourage sustainable agriculture and get unbelievably delicious food all at the same time? Join the growing number of people nationwide who have discovered the flavors and fun of local farmers’ markets. At many markets you’ll find organic fruits and vegetables, sometimes sold direct to you by the farmer himself! Other offerings can include breads, honey, flowers, pickles, fresh juices, cheese and homemade muffins.
For a listing of markets in your area, visit Local Harvest and type in your zip code. You should also contact the market manager to see if their farmers participate in the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). This program seeks to provide better nutrition for under-served families by offering coupons for use only at farmers markets.
