ChildSafe Schools

CSS logo smIncreasing rates of environmentally-triggered diseases in children, including asthma, cancer and neurological disorders, have sparked an increased interest in the quality of environments where children spend time, particularly schools. Three potentially harmful exposures have been identified as common to most schools: diesel exhaust from idling school buses, toxins from cleaning products, and pesticides used on playing fields. The ChildSafe School is a comprehensive, solution-based program designed to help parents and school officials reduce or eliminate these exposures. The program includes short documentary films, FAQ sheets, scientific studies and sample policies which can be adopted by any school to become a ChildSafe School.
